As its name indicates, the Hybrid Knee is a new type of prosthetic Knee joint that utilizes a combination of a hydraulic damper and Nabtesco'unique MRS(Mechanism of Reaction Force Sensing) system to carry out satance phase control, together with microprocessor-controlled pneumatic pressure for swing phase control, enabling thejoint to respond flexibly to all kinds of movement and changes in cadence.
One problem for wearers of prosthetic limbs is anxiety that the knee might bend while the leg is upright or during heel strike when walking, or that the limb may be slow to come into motion during the swing phase. The Hybrid Knee eases this worry and improves the quality of life for wearers of prosthetic limbs.
MRS System
The MRS system uses a linkage mechanism to measure the floor reaction force and switch the hydraulic system on and off to activate the yielding function.
1:Heel Strike
As the heel strikes the graound, the MRS system closes valves in the hydraulic resistance and prevent the knee from suddenly bending
2:Late Stance Phase
In the late stance phase, the MRS system opens valves in the hydaulic resistance and enable the knee to bend smoothly.
3:Swing Phase
Duaring the swing phase,a microprocessor senses the gait speed and automatically adjusts the pneumatic pressure, setting the prosthetic limb in motion appropriate for the cadence.
4:Yielding
When descending stairs or slopes, the MRS system closes valves in the hydraulic damper to increase hydraulic resistance. the activates the yielding function and enables the wearer to walk down using alternate feet.
